press release

The exhibition “Between Brno and Budapest” – a loosely-based remake of an earlier exhibit that likely took place at the Architectural Association of London – highlights the early work of Petra Andrejova-Molnár (1899-1985) and her influences of the 1920's and 30's within the vibrant and emerging architectural modernism of Eastern Europe. Petra Andrejova, known later as P.A., collaborated and worked closely with many of the key figures of the region, including Czech architects Bohuslav Fuchs (1895-1972) and Jaromir Krejcar (1895-1950), as well as the Hungarians Farkas Molnar (1897-1945) and Josef Fischer (1901-1995).

The show comprises drawings, plans, photos and models that have been collected or remade, and exhibits the exchange of ideas that occurred between these architects during the fertile interwar period. These architects were at the center of a hopeful and progressive moment in the newly established Czechoslovak and Hungarian People's Republic, and the exhibit highlights a few of their early ideas, unfinished plans and attempted or successful collaborations.

The exhibition is accompanied by a re-print of the original catalogue published by the Architectural Association in 1976 and is organized by the artist Katarina Burin.
