PHILIPPE DECRAUZAT - Notes, Tones, Stone

At the same time, Swiss artist Philippe Decrauzat, known for his geometric paintings and his films in 16mm, inspired by the history of the experimenal cinema, will occupy the central space under the glass roof of MAGASIN called «La Rue», where he will present new works, designed for this space and produced on site.

A series of eight paintings will hang along the walls in dialog with volumes emerging from the floor. Philippe Decrauzat is inspired by the drawings of Etienne-Jules Marey, father of the cronophotography and more specifically by the curves produced by the observation of respiratory phenomenas. Using these referential images, he generates a succession of parallel diagonal lines which rythm produces wavy visual effects. The volumetric constructions on the other hand will impose a physical and visual obstruction for the viewer. These volumes will become architectural elements as well as screens and pedestals generating shadow zones where three 16mm films will be projected. Creating a space that visually brakes and re-frames the paintings, the volumes interfere with visitors visual perception. In this environment, the light and volume display builds an invitation that almost demands us for a direct participation to keep moving.
