press release

The show will comprise new works by twelve international artists of younger generation who mainly work in a field of site-specific installation often involving sculpture, painting, photography etc. There is no common denominator, nor a preconditioned theme for the show or a subject proposed to artists. An important factor which determined this particular selection of artists was their insistence on questioning representation (even if their work was not always "abstract" and their critique of representation was not always programmatic) and exposing the ways it functions within art and defines social practice.

Claudia & Julia Müller The exhibition's seminal idea was to gather the works that deal with issues of mediation or indirectness as a mode of perception employed in most of contemporary experience. If reality once to be grasped in an instant is now getting more and more remote and finally seems to disappear, if there is no original and we are supposed to live in a ready-made world of copies and repetitions - then what is a real experience, and how can art resort to experience at all, if the very nature of so-called "live experience" has now become so highly problematic.

The exhibition will be accompanied by catalogue. The basic concept for the publication is to illustrate the works in the show with drawings, sketches, press cuttings, visual material being a source for particular works etc.- instead of using photographic reproduction of the pieces.
