Shirin Neshat: The Last Word

Shirin Neshat. “La última palabra” (“The Last Word”) is trying to review this artist’s extraordinary career, taking her last ten years work as a reference. About twenty of her most representative photograhs and five video installations, out of the eleven produced by the artist, will tell us about the developement of her career and will offer us a unique chance to analyze her interests and worries.

Far from clarifying the paradoxic situation in which her work struggles, between what her western spectators have often interpreted as exotism or eastern representation and what her spectetors from islamic countries have described as stereotypes, this retrospective, produced and organized by the MUSAC (León) and in collaboration with the CAAM, is imvolved with this ambiguity in order to enlighten the complex dynamics in which all the Shirin Neshat’s creation is inmersed between these two cultural origins.
