press release

Subtle in its visual quality and often organic in its form and material, the work in this group exhibition is by women artists working in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. Drawn principally from the MCA’s Collection, this presentation of sculpture, painting, and photography follows a sensibility that flourished in the 1970s and continues to the present day. Concerned with forms that relate to the body and materials that relate to the earth and other natural elements, these women have created compelling work that is often modest in scale, highly crafted, and layered with many meanings and allusions. Artists include Edith Altman, Lynda Benglis, Cynthia Carlson, Barbara Cooper, Jackie Ferrara, Roni Horn, Joan Livingstone, Ana Mendieta, Ree Morton, Christina Ramberg, Barbara Rossi, Alice Shaddle, Lorna Simpson, Evelyn Statsinger, Michelle Stuart, Anne Wilson, Jackie Winsor, and Claire Zeisler. The exhibition is curated by Associate Curator Staci Boris. Pressetext
