on view July 22 – October 22, 2004 In their work, collaborative duo Teresa Hubbard and Alexander Birchler use themes of physical and emotional separation to explore the psychological impact of architectural forms. Single Wide, Hubbard and Birchler’s first U.S. museum show, consists of a single-shot looped projection on a screen within the gallery space. Emerging from their earlier highly staged and meticulously crafted photographic work, this cinematically referential, single-pan video similarly investigates the notion of architectural space as a psychological metaphor, exploring the dichotomies of inside/outside, light/dark, male/female, and individual/community.
