press release

Vernissage: 5th March 2009, 6 pm.

The exhibition The beauty of nudity presents a thematic exposition, which shows the works of art of famous Polish painters among others of Jerzey Nowosielski, Wojciech Weiss, Józef Pankiewicz, Władysław Podkowiński and Jacek Malczewski. The exhibition includes almost 70 works belonging to important Polish art institutions such as National Museum in Warszawa, Krakow and Poznan, The District Museum in Torun, Art Museum in Lodz and the Museum of Lodz City History. What makes this exhibition unique is however, a great collection of Polish classics representing different art trends and schools. The oldest painting Faun’s family dates back to the 1890-ties and was painted by Cracovian artist Franciszek Zmurko, whereas the most modern were created almost one hundred years later in the 1980-ties by Kazimierz Mikulski (The moons were shining that night)and Jerzy Nowosielski (A nude with a basin). All works are connected by the main motif – nudity. A nude mostly female body is depicted in many contexts, therefore the paintings are related either to mythological, historical, biblical or allegorical scenes.
