No painter was more famed or highly regarded in Golden Age Spain than Titian, whose works were avidly collected by the monarchs and were a source of inspiration for artists such as Rubens and Velázquez. Between the years 1508 to 1510 when he painted his first works and his death in 1576, Titian created one of the greatest oeuvres in western art, was the most acclaimed painter of his day and the protagonist of a type of painting that emphasised colour as its main expressive value in a way that would have enormous consequences for the art of the future.

Although it houses the greatest collection of Titian's works in the world, the Museo del Prado has never before devoted an entire exhibition to this artist. The exhibition "Titian" aims to rectify this situation.

Organised in collaboration with the National Gallery in London, this ambitious project brings together 65 paintings from various European and American museums, including some of the artist's most famous works. The exhibition has been organised into five sections going through Titian's technical evolution from his first productions till the end of his life.
