press release

Kusama Yayoi (born in Nagano Prefecture in 1929) went to New York in 1957 and was a striking figure at the very front of American avant-garde art scene in the 1960s. Today she has moved her home to Japan but is still very active internationally. The exhibition is on a comprehensive scale with many new works. Kusama visualizes her fantasy by obsessively accumulating symbolic objects, with infinitely proliferating nets and dots and virtual images in mirrors. The exhibition presents seven large-scale installations, new and the latest works, and the mixture will offer an opportunity to the viewer to understand Kusamafs unique expressive world. Kusama has participated in the 45th Venice Biennale in 1993, Taipei Biennale and the 24th Sao Paulo Biennale in 1998, Sydney Biennale in 2000, Yokohama Triennale in 2001 and other international exhibitions.
