press release

YOKOHAMA 2005 - Yokohama's second International Triennale of Contemporary Art builds on the success of YOKOHAMA 2001 and will feature the work of around 80 participating international and Japanese artists and groups exhibiting in the main venue‐two enormous warehouses located on Yamashita Pier.

The special emphases of the “Art Circus” will be “involvement on site,” or active participation by visitors in the process of creating works, and “involvement with others,” in which a work comes into being through interaction with those who gather around it. Through arrangements for public viewing of the creation of particular works, workshops, home-stay production by artists, and other approaches, the Triennale seeks to remove the barriers between artists and art lovers and create a fresh space for encounters with art.In addition to the exhibits, the program is packed with interactive events from art performances, plays, and films to symposiums and gallery talks by the artists to enhance enjoyment of the richly international works and projects presented.
