Bill Brandt (b. 1904 in Hamburg; d. 1983 in London) is considered one of the most important British photographers of the 20th century. His fields of work were social documentary photography, nude, portrait and landscape photography. At the end of the 1920s he came to Paris and there in contact with the Surealists, was briefly assistant to Man Ray. In the early 1930s he went to London, where he did photo reportage for "Harper's Bazaar" and "News Chronicle", among others. After World War II, he created suspenseful black-and-white photographs of female nudes, landscapes and portraits.
