press release

In their performances, most of which are carried out in the public sphere, the Georgian collective Bouillon Group reference the multilayered Georgian culture, as well as scrutinize and critically analyze the reality of life in post-Soviet Georgia. With its explicitly performative approach, the Bouillon Group focuses on transcending the boundaries between life and art, between artistic and public sphere. It is particularly by drawing on regional traditions and transferring them artistically into new contexts that Bouillon Group reveals multilayered historical and social levels of meaning.

In the context of the exhibition Bouillon Group will be performing their complete Social Aerobics trilogy for the first time- including the Religious Aerobics performance presented in the context of the 55th Venice Biennale. Furthermore a selection of older projects in the form of video documentation will be presented in the show, which is the first in the German-speaking countries to provide an extensive overview of the collective’s works.
