press release
In its first edition as a biennial event, MADRID ABIERTO aims to highlight the ways in which collaboration and cooperation may act as driving forces to instil change in the urban environment and to activate networks among citizens enabling a better comprehension of the dynamics in the city.
The artistic projects to be presented by ten selected artists will take place in various locations around the city, along with a radio broadcast of selected pieces in the sound art and audiovisual categories. All works will be presented by the artists in public encounters and debates at Casa Encendida in Madrid on the 4, 5 and 6 of February.
This sixth edition of MADRID ABIERTO, directed by Jorge Díez and curated by Cecilia Andersson, emphasizes the collaborative spirit of certain artistic practices carried out in public spaces. An array of different dynamics have been put to work in order to explore ways in which such practices can affect people and policies in specific locations. The projects count on the involvement by a wide range of professionals, among them gardeners, actors, social workers, geologists, programmers, architects and urban developers.
