Joan Mitchell (b. 1925, Chicago, Illinois, United States; d. 1992, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France) was one of the most important representatives of Abstract Expressionism. She studied at Columbia University, New York, at School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and at Smith College, Northhampton.
