Christian Boltanski (b. 1944, Paris; d. 2021, Paris) was a conceptual artist. He had become known for his installations of memory inventories, which often take almost monumental proportionss. In 1972, 1977, and 1987 he participated at documenta 5,6 and 8. In 2011 he represented France at the Venice Biennale. He lived with his wife Annette Messager in Malakoff near Paris.
