Piero Manzoni (b. 1933, Soncino / Italy, d. 1963, Milan / Italy) was a pioneer of the Conceptual Art. He made provocative works, like 'Merda d'artista (Artist's shit, 1961,)', and he created his series Achrome, paintings without brush and without paint, in which materials such as plaster or kaolin are processed into colorless relief images.

Azimut (the gallery) and Azimuth (the review) were initiated by Enrico Castellani and Piero Manzoni, and became one of the great catalysts of Italian and European visual and conceptual culture.
